Rémy Taghavi, bassoonist

Bassoonist Rémy Taghavi is an active performer and educator in the New York City area. He has performed, toured and recorded with numerous groups and festivals across the US, Canada, Ecuador, and Japan. 

Rémy is principal bassoon of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, co-founder of the Annapolis Chamber Music Festival, and a member of the chamber ensembles SoundMind and Frisson. Other groups with which he has collaborated include the Princeton, Cape, and American Youth Symphonies, the New York Symphonic Ensemble, Contemporaneous, Ensemble Échappé, the New York Classical Players, Stereo Hideout, and ensemble mise-en. During the 2014-15 season, he was an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In 2016 he was awarded a two-year fellowship with Ensemble Connect, a program of Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard School, the Weill Music Institute and the New York City Department of Education. That same year he performed the Mozart Bassoon Concerto with the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra as a concerto competition winner. 

Mr. Taghavi holds faculty positions at University of Massachusetts Amherst, Rocky Ridge Music Center’s Young Artist Seminar and the Evening Division at The Juilliard School. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California, received a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School and a DMA from Stony Brook University. His primary teachers include Frank Morelli, Judith Farmer, and Norbert Nielubowski.
